And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh. One day at the base of a mountain, his attention was attracted by a flaming bush, but, oddly, it was not consumed. 27:12 And the LORD said unto Moses, Get thee up into this mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given unto the children of Israel.27:13 And when thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother was gathered.27:14 For ye rebelled against my commandment in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the water before their eyes: that [is] the water of Meribah in Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin. 19 Now the LORD had said to Moses in Midian, "Go back to Egypt, for all the men who sought to kill you are dead." 20 So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey, and headed . Moses was born to Amram (the dad) who was a Levite and Jochebed (the mother) who was also a Levite. God had a much better plan for him. Unfortunately, the Bible does not specify the part of Midian in which Moses resided. The events below arelisted on the timeline above(Click an event below to be taken to that section. Elijah represents God's people who will be translatedmeaning that they will be taken to heaven, when Jesus returns, without ever dying. )As mentioned above, God had a much better plan for Moses than just being able to go into Canaan. While Moses was resting at a well, according to the biblical account, seven daughters of the Midianite priest Jethro came to water their fathers flocks. Amram and Jochebed became the parents of Aaron, Moses, and their sister, Miriam. Yahweh acknowledged the defect but promised to help him express himself. I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.5:3 And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.5:4 And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? Study now. And they did so.14:5 And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled: and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?14:6 And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him:14:7 And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over every one of them.14:8 And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: and the children of Israel went out with an high hand.14:9 But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses [and] chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon.14:10 And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.14:11 And they said unto Moses, Because [there were] no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? He represents God's people who will die and then beresurrected and taken to heaven when Jesus returns. How should I share what I know about Jesus? Later, when the boy was older, his mother brought him back to Pharaohs daughter, who adopted him as her own son. When the princess saw the basket among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it for her. Moses had abrother, Aaron, who was 3 years older and an older sister, Mariam. 1. When Moses was about 40he saw one of his own people being beaten, andhe tried to take things into his own hands. The little boy was crying, and she felt sorry for him. 23 And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel. This must be one of the Hebrew children, she said. 1 He had two older siblings, Aaron and Miriam. The Bible does not say a lot about the early life of Moses, but we do know this much: For further study, (if you have not read it already) read: When Moses was a full 40 years old (Acts 7:23) he came upon an Egyptian who was beating an Israelite slave. Moshe was 120 years old and this was the 40th year the Jews were in the Desert. The Bible says that Moses became the meekest man on earth (Numbers 12:3). While many doubt the authenticity of this tradition, the name Moses (Hebrew Moshe) is derived from Egyptian mose (is born) and is found in such names as Thutmose ([The God] Thoth Is Born). Amram lived long enough to see Moses' great-grandkids, his own great-great-grandchildren, 2 and mentor Ahijah the Shilonite. Realizing that he would have to flee, he went to Midian (mainly in northwest Arabia). God reassured Moses that in the future he and the Hebrews would worship at this mountain. These rules wouldn't have even been thought of until after the exodus when God gave rules to help extend lifespans and help raise children as a community. There his two sons were born. The people again complain about not having "flesh" to eat. Yes, do! the princess replied. When God told Moses to return to Egypt, Moses must have been afraid. 14:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,14:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn and encamp before Pihahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, over against Baalzephon: before it shall ye encamp by the sea.14:3 For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They [are] entangled in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in.14:4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I [am] the LORD. Inasmuch as tradition figured about 12 generations from Moses to Solomon, the reference to 480 years is most likely an editorial comment allowing 40 years for each generation. 32:1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for [as for] this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.32:2 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which [are] in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring [them] unto me.32:3 And all the people brake off the golden earrings which [were] in their ears, and brought [them] unto Aaron.32:4 And he received [them] at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These [be] thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.32:5 And when Aaron saw [it], he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow [is] a feast to the LORD.32:6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.32:7 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted [themselves]:32:8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These [be] thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.32:9 And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it [is] a stiffnecked people:32:10 Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.32:11 And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?32:12 Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? 16:1 And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which [is] between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.16:2 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness:16:3 And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, [and] when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.16:4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.16:5 And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare [that] which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.16:6 And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt:16:7 And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for that he heareth your murmurings against the LORD: and what [are] we, that ye murmur against us?16:8 And Moses said, [This shall be], when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against him: and what [are] we? 19 Now the Lord had said to Moses in Midian, "Go back to Egypt, for all those who wanted to kill you are dead." 20 So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey and started back to Egypt. In assuming the responsibility for Jethros flocks, Moses roamed the wilderness looking for pasture. And God has a better plan for you too. God sends enough quail to feed about 2,000,000 people for 1 month. Regardless of how one interprets the burning bush, the important fact is that Moses was conscious of an encounter with Deity. Before he could do so, he was warned to come no closer. After the king of Egypt dies, Moses feels it is safe to return to Egypt. (It is interesting to note here that of these 10 plagues, the last 7 plagues that fell on Egypt did not fall on the Israelites. 34:1 And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that [is] over against Jericho. He had seen bushes brilliant with flamelike blossoms, but this phenomenon was different, and so he turned aside to investigate it. 2:15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. One of his own knew his secret and soon Pharaoh would, too. Moses spent the next 40 years working as a shepherd for Jethro in Midian. Moses tells God that he is not able to care for all the people alone. Working with the sheep day after day taught him both. When the princess opened it, she saw the baby. 22 And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.12:28 And the children of Israel went away, and did as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.12:29 And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that [was] in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle.12:30 And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for [there was] not a house where [there was] not one dead.12:31 And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, [and] get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the LORD, as ye have said.12:32 Also take your flocks and your herds, as ye have said, and be gone; and bless me also. Moses was about 80 years old when God appeared to him in a burning bush and called him to return to Egypt (Exodus 7:7; Acts 7:23, 30). And then.in Acts 7:30. Moses was very disappointed that he could not go into Canaan, but He still trusted in His Creator. Sinai and saw many other manifestations proving that it was God who was leading them, but when they finally arrived at the Land of Canaan they still did not trust God. Moses died at the end of the 40 years of wandering in the wilderness, but before he died God allowed him to see into Canaan. 4:21 And the LORD said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.4:22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel [is] my son, [even] my firstborn:4:23 And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, [even] thy firstborn.4:24 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him.4:25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast [it] at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband [art] thou to me.4:26 So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband [thou art], because of the circumcision.4:27 And the LORD said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. 24:18 And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights. Moses married Zipporah (Jethro's daughter) and together they had two sons. About the time Moses was born, Pharaoh made a decree that all male children were to be killed (Exodus 1), but Jochebed was able to hide Moses for about 3 months. When he found an Egyptian taskmaster beating a Hebrew, probably to death, he could control his sense of justice no longer. Then the babys sister approached the princess. call him, that he may eat bread.2:21 And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.2:22 And she bare [him] a son, and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land. have not I the LORD?4:12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.4:13 And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand [of him whom] thou wilt send.4:14 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, [Is] not Aaron the Levite thy brother? they be almost ready to stone me.17:5 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.17:6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. He had removed one threat to his people and was determined to assist them again. NOTE: The reason no one knows where Moses was buried is because God resurrected him. When Moses heard that, he fled the country and lived as a foreigner in the land of Midian. Sinai there are a number of events that are recorded, among them are the following: A lot is said about the Children of Israel during their first 2 years in the wilderness, but not much is said about the next 38 years. Moses left Egypt on at least two occasions. He killed theEgyptian and because of this impulsive act he had to flee from Egypt and from Pharaoh. His parents, Amram and Yocheved, were from the illustrious tribe of Levi. 18:1 When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, [and] that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt;18:2 Then Jethro, Moses' father in law, took Zipporah, Moses' wife, after he had sent her back,18:3 And her two sons; of which the name of the one [was] Gershom; for he said, I have been an alien in a strange land:18:4 And the name of the other [was] Eliezer; for the God of my father, [said he, was] mine help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh:18:5 And Jethro, Moses' father in law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness, where he encamped at the mount of God:18:6 And he said unto Moses, I thy father in law Jethro am come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her.18:7 And Moses went out to meet his father in law, and did obeisance, and kissed him; and they asked each other of [their] welfare; and they came into the tent.18:8 And Moses told his father in law all that the LORD had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, [and] all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and [how] the LORD delivered them.18:9 And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the LORD had done to Israel, whom he had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians.18:10 And Jethro said, Blessed [be] the LORD, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.18:11 Now I know that the LORD [is] greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly [he was] above them.18:12 And Jethro, Moses' father in law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father in law before God.18:13 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.18:14 And when Moses' father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What [is] this thing that thou doest to the people?
